Landscape Notes: ’Mountain Fire’ Japanese Pieris, Pieris japonica, has graceful, showy flower clusters in the spring. The foliage resembles Mountain Laurel when flowers are gone. This is an attractive plant that combines well with other plantings as a foundation or specimen plant. Flowers are very similar to Lily-of-the-Valley. Great for naturalizing.

Exposure/Culture: ’Mountain Fire’ Japanese Pieris, Pieris japonica, thrives in partial shade to shade conditions. It should be planted in moist, organic, well drained soils that are slightly acidic. Pruning is rarely needed and should be done after flowering to shape.

Other Notes: ’Mountain Fire’ Japanese Pieris, Pieris japonica, may also be known as Japanese Andromeda. It produces tiny, urn-shaped, white flowers in the early spring. The flowers are arranged in 5-6 inch long clusters that are very showy against the green foliage.
