Landscape Notes: ‘Fernspray’ False Cypress, Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Filicoides’ is a slender Hinoki Cypress that makes a nice specimen plant due to its unique and interesting, frond like branchlets. Can be used effectively as a foundation plant for taller structures, and is sometimes used as a container specimen.
Exposure/Culture: ‘Fernspray’ False Cypress, Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Filicoides’ will thrive in full sun or partial shade conditions. It does best in moist, well drained soil, lightly mulched. ‘Fernspray’ False Cypress, Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Filicoides’ prefers humid conditions, but does not like excessive heat or wind. Does well near walls. Pruning is not usually necessary or recommended.
Other Notes: ‘Fernspray’ False Cypress, Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Filicoides’ adds a pyramidial form with its fernlike foliage and graceful curved limbs. Great for Oriental gardens!
