Landscape Notes: ‘Soft Touch’ Holly, Ilex crenata is a compact, vigorous form that grows extremely dense without shearing. Leaves are dark green and make a fine foundation plant. A superior holly for its planting zones!
Exposure/Culture: ‘Soft Touch’ Holly, Ilex crenata thrives in full sun or shade conditions. Prefers well drained, slightly acid, heavy soils. Does not perform well in sandy soils. ‘Soft Touch’ Holly, Ilex crenata is not as drought tolerant as other hollies so supplemental watering may be necessary during dry periods. Responds well to pruning when needed.
Other Notes: ‘Soft Touch’ Holly, Ilex crenata is a great substitute for ‘Helleri’ Holly. Makes an excellent foundation plant where height is a limiting factor.
