Fertilome Dipel Dust is a biological insecticide powered by the bacterium Bacillus Thuringiensis kurstaki (Btk). This rod-shaped bacterium is naturally found in the soil in many places around the world and targets pests in the Lepidoptera order. Many of the most serious plant pests are in this order, including (but not limited to) Spongy Moth, Hornworms, Leafrollers, Budworms, Loopers, Tent caterpillars, and Webworms. When a caterpillar ingests treated foliage, the Btk releases a type of endotoxin which paralyzes the caterpillar's digestive tract. As soon as this happens, the caterpillar will stop feeding and die a short time later.
