Landscape Notes: Crape Myrtle, Lagerstroemia indica should be “limbed” to create a muti-stemmed small tree. It is a heavy flowering specimen plant that works well in juniper or ground cover beds. Crape Myrtle, Lagerstroemia indica has a quite long flowering period, and the “naked bark” is both unusual and handsome.

Exposure/Culture: Crape Myrtle, Lagerstroemia indica prefers full sun, moist, well drained soil, but is reasonably drought tolerant. Blooms on current season’s growth, so pruning should be accomplished in late winter. Pruning will increase flower production.

Other Notes: Crape Myrtle, Lagerstroemia indica has green foliage with a bronzy cast in the spring, green leaves in the summer, and turning orange-red in the fall. Can be used in small groupings, specimen plant, and even a colorful screen or hedge. Also used on corners of homes and at entryways. After the beautiful showing during the spring, summer, and fall the Crape Myrtle, Lagerstroemia indica doesn’t stop there. During the winter this plant has attractive peeling bark that is mottled in appearance. A great plant to add attractiveness and beauty to your landscape throughout all the seasons!
